Envisors was retained by the City of Lakeland to provide professional surveying and mapping services to prepare high accuracy volume, density, and dry tonnage quantity estimates for the City of Lakeland Electric coal stockpiles located at the C.D. McIntosh, Jr. Power Plant. Envisors used state-of-the-art 3D Laser Scanning technology to obtain the highest degree of accuracy. The first step included using EVI’s Total Station and Topcon Digital Level equipment to establish the site horizontal and vertical control network, and our state-of-the-art RTK Global Positioning System to convert the project data to the Florida State Plane Coordinate System. The measurement of the coal piles volumes was accomplished by utilizing the innovative technology of 3D Laser Scanning to produce the configuration of the piles with 37 mega-pixel images rendered over a 3D point cloud. Approximately 20 million points are gathered regularly from 18 scanning positions to produce a very accurate 1-foot contour map that depicts all of the features of the piles, including wash-outs along the slopes created by rain erosion. High accuracy 3D Topographic surveys of the 5 pile surfaces, volume and dry tonnage estimates, and a virtual 3D site movie are the work products delivered to the client on a quarterly basis.
