City Project Managed by Firm Wins Recognition from Regional Chapter

The City of Winter Haven recently received the Build It Award of Merit from the Heart of Florida chapter of the American Planning Association for trail and roadway improvements to 3rd Street – a project which Envisors, A Pennoni Company, provided survey, design, permitting and civil engineering services to.

In an effort to create more connected city, The City of Winter Haven initiated a multi-year program to establish a trail system throughout downtown Winter Haven. With funding from the Florida Department of Transportation’s Local Agency Program, the project spanned a 1,600 foot section of 3rd Street SW, and added new sidewalks, on-street parking and an 8-foot wide paved trail. Additionally, the four lane roadway was transformed into a 2-way, 2-lane corridor.

The project revamped the downtown area, and created an urban oasis for local businesses, pedestrians, and visitors to Winter Haven.

In addition to the Heart of Florida APA recognition, the City of Winter Haven and the 3rd Street SW Streetscape, Trail and Roadway Improvement project also won the Community Recognition award as presented by PolkVision at their annual Livable Polk Awards. The award recognizes constructive changes in the community that have created a more livable space and featured healthy and sustainable community design efforts.
